Tay Report wk 6th April 15

Well, what can you say other than just 2 fish for the week, 8 & 10lbs both caught by Dennis P one on the fly the other on a Kynock, one from Murthly 1 with Donald, the other from Murthly 2 with Tony. But perhaps the score did paint a slightly worse picture than the reality in that 4 other fish were lost, typical of running fish just nipping at the flies or baits.

In mitigation, conditions could hardly have been worse, with the water height stubbornly sitting at over 2ft on the gauge all week, a height at which the fish just run through Murthly without stopping. Dear old Murray Harper, who introduced me to the beat over 20 years ago always said that if you drive over the Caputh Bridge and look up stream, you either want the Pipe out of the water by the Glendelvine hut, or the Big Bargee stone (from behind which Miss Ballantine caught the big fish) under the water. Anything in between and you’ve had it. We had everything in between plus the other biggest salmon fishing killer, a blazing sun for the entire week.

Some you win, some you lose. Big breath and move on!
