River was coloured and full of leaves first thing and rose to 2′ 4″ during the morning. I left after lunch for the long drive home having not seen anything at all on the top beat. I had hoped to find a few running up the edges in the thinner water. A good tactic if they are there. But it was not to be.
Looking on the website I see Traquair had the only fish off the river that day. Maybe at the Leithen junction if it had run clear.
So a frustrating week of just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. But at least Eric got his first salmon and I didn’t blank so small mercies!
Mixed feelings about next year. With the now compulsory catch and release and not even allowing a fish to be photographed out of the water, if the salmon are in such decline should we really be fishing for them at all? As to why we are in such a decline? Don’t even get me started!
