The luck of the Irish!

Water holding at 9″ on the Peebles gauge. A better day with less wind. Overnight a run of fish came into the Rae Wheel and below. The two Irish lads had 5 salmon and two sea trout from there and Black Strand below. Well done to them.

Eric L then went into Rae Wheel after lunch and caught his first Salmon a 12 pound cock fish. Well done Eric!!!

Me? I fished Lower Rocks, Burnetts Cairn, and Branders in the morning and Back of the Island and Arras’ Putt in the afternoon, went through the card… never saw a fish and not a single tug or pull. Oh and my waders sprung a leak in both legs!  Hey ho, that’s salmon fishing for you.

My thanks to Mark and Allan. Absolutely brilliant. The beat is a model of how a beat should be cared for and their enthusiasm and hospitality second to none.

Off to Traquair tomorrow, hope it’s not too much of a culture shock!
