Cold, wet and fishless.
River rose gradually all day to 1’4″ on the Peebles gauge and coloured up with lots of leaves. More heavy rain after lunch added to the fun making me wet on the outside to add to both boots full on the inside. My overnight gluing clearly failed to seal the leaks. Sodding waders.
We flogged first the middle beat then the mound and the meetings after lunch without so much as a tug or seeing anything other than the three residents in the mound and two stale grilse in the House pool.
Met a very nice Dutchman who had fished Boleside yesterday hooking 6 fish and landing 5. He said it was too easy and they were taking anything, small or big flies. I think he has come back to Earth after a day with us on Traquair.
Strange game this. Take for example: last year, the New Water Pool was heaving with fish, this year neither Eric nor I saw even a fin.
Last day tomorrow. Update when I get home.
