Strong wind and bright sun on first afternoon and just 3 fish for my group of 6. yesterday was calmer and the river clearer and we got 22 fish including several in the 14 – 17lb class. Great day. this morning (1st august ) another bright morning but we still got 7 from beat 1 […]

Iceland before we go
I spoke to Charlie White a few moments ago, who is just back from the East Ranga… The river is clear and running at a good level. His 14 rods got 157 fish in three days which, given that 6 of them were total beginners and there were numbers of fish over 5 kilos, is fantastic. […]
Casting Demonstrations at the CLA Game fair and the Cowden Fete!
Just a heads up that if you are interested in coming to see me give one of my public demonstrations in the near future, I will shortly be attending the two most prestigious events in the calendar! The Cowden Village Fete, Saturday 29th June. Yes it has only taken 25 years of living in, or at […]
Ron Ransley’s 60th Birthday party!
To celebrate his 60th birthday Ron Ransley arranged a days fishing for his family at the farm. To quote him he said “I’ll organise the weather if you sort the fishing.” Well as ever with Ron, the sun shone when we wanted it to, and then it clouded over to give the best fishing conditions possible. Boxalls Day 21st May 2014
A week or so of very hot weather is never good for still water fishing as the upper layers become lacking in the oxygen so essential to the trout. But, returning to his usual weather form Ron Ransley ordered up a nice overcast and cool day and whilst we had to get Damsel Nymphs and […]
Tay Report Summary May 2014
Well I guess some years you get it just right and others not. After last years record catches in all three of my weeks expectations were high. But constant rain in the west possibly combined with rumours about some gate that wouldn’t close on the Dam at Pitlochry and the water was up and down […]
Tay report 14th May 2014
I hate to say I told you so…. But water down for the first time to a sensible height and a spanking 12 lb sea liced first fish from tail of spruces on a wagtail fly for Andrew h. And several other fish seen holding. If it stays at 1’6″ and below the rest of […]
Tay report 13th May 2014
This is becoming ridiculous, water down to 1’8″ yesterday afternoon and back up to over 2′ again today. They had 3 on the upper water yesterday and 4 off newtyle. We saw fresh fish hammering through and never got a pull!
Tay report 12th May 2014
Water up again on heavy showers in the west yesterday. A few fish seen running through but nothing to show for our efforts yet again!
Tay report 10th May 2014
Water remained irritatingly just to high for us to reach any running fish and too high to stop the ones we saw. Cecil d saved the blank with a 3 lb sea trout but what a disappointment only 2 fish for the week, I think the worst week I have ever had – though I […]
