Here at my home base, Little Saxbys Farm, we have two small lakes set in the stunningly beautiful Wealden countryside where we can offer a variety of fishing and instruction.

The lakes are stocked both with rainbow and brown trout, insect life is prolific and we have an impressive hatch of mayfly in the Spring. We do not offer day tickets but preserve the fishing for our Courses and a limited number of Group days. As well as the Fishing Courses that are held from March to June and in late September-early October, all year round we offer one-to-one Casting Instruction and Casting Courses.

Individual Casting Tuition

One-to-one Casting Tuition is available by arrangement but it is a more expensive way to learn.

Beginner’s Trout Fishing Course – Maximum 8 people with 2 instructors

This is a one-day course designed to introduce novices to the sport of trout fishing with a fly. We cover everything from tackle to tactics, give a good grounding on the basics of casting a fly rod and ensure that everyone catches a fish or two, all in a fun, controlled and undemanding environment.

Improver’s Trout Fishing Course – maximum 8 people with 2 instructors

This is a one-day course for those who have already attended the Beginner’s Course or at least attained some proficiency and wish to develop their skills further.

Single-handed Casting Course (4 hours with a break) minimum 2 people/maximum 4 – with one instructor

These courses are designed for those who want to learn as much as they can in a one-day session.  We cover all aspects of casting with a single-handed rod.

Spey Casting Crash Course (4 hours with a break) minimum 2 people/maximum 4 people - with one instructor.

This is a crash course to teach the essentials of casting with a double-handed rod and how to Spey cast. It is designed for those who are unable to come to Scotland for the three-day courses. Because it is not held on running water you can expect to learn the principles and mechanics of casting sufficient to be able to get a line out and catch fish. However, please remember casting on still water is not as good as learning on the river.

Corporate Days

In Spring and Autumn, Little Saxbys is able to host individually tailored Corporate Entertainment Days for groups of 6 to 8 people. Experienced APGAI instructors are on hand to provide expert tuition and advice to guests. Our Corporate Days have proved extremely popular with clients wishing to entertain informally in a wonderfully relaxed, rural environment. We are happy for you either to supply your own catering or, equally, we would be delighted to arrange this for you if you would prefer.
