Still here and…. Sea Fishing!

Having not posted since my April Salmon courses I thought I should mention that I am at least still here first. No thanks to a very nasty six or so weeks of “new” Covid, bought back from India by Jacky. And this after (I might add for the record) having had Covid in early 21 and every Jab since! But as they say “if it doesn’t kill you…”

Anyway, in the sad absence of Russia (thanks to Putin) and Iceland (thanks to politics and cost) and my next Scotland trip not until September, I have gone back to doing a bit sea fishing. More specifically beach fishing off the south coast.

With my own rod making capability now and some new ideas on rigs, I made up several beach caster rods added multiplier reels and went out to the top field to test them out. First cast 80 or so yards… second cast nearly put a 4oz lead through the chicken house roof! 115 yards. This fun. Almost as much fun – and incidentally very similar to – Spey Casting a double handed salmon rod.

Anyway I have been several times now and whilst I have had a couple of blanks mainly due to bad weather, have had several Bass to 4.5lbs, Plaice, Dabs (Jacky had a 1.4oz Dab biggest I have ever seen) Rockling, Whiting, Silver Eels, Dogfish and yesterday, a SmoothHound.

Anyone who fancy’s a go or needs any kit for a beach fishing trip let me know.
